Past Project
Promoting a Mercury-Free Mali
Promoting a Mercury-free Mali (Pro-MFM) is funded by the U.S. Department of State and implemented by Pact, in partnership with the Mali Ministry of Mines. Its objective is to support formalization and reduce mercury use, while strengthening transparent, conflict-free supply chains in Mali’s artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) sector. The project mostly focuses on the Cercle of Keniéba in southwestern Mali, where Djeka Baara – an association of some 1,500 miners committed to improving their practices – is engaged as the project’s main participant. Pact is assessing other organizations in Koulikoro and Sikasso regions to select a second participant group.
